Now is the time to ground. Many people have expressed; “I am so glad 2020 is over, a new year will be so much better”. 🎺🎉🎊
.
While I love the sentiment of positivity, I have to admit it is quite unlikely that a new calendar will restore normalcy. All signs indicate we are in this thing for the long haul. 😢
.
Instead of hoping for a change in circumstances with the change of our calendars, we can prepare ourselves for stability through purposeful plans of action.📅 Take control.
.
There are no relatable reference points for what the world is going through right now. This is so much more than a “pandemic”. Every thread of the fabric of our lives is affected and change is eminent. The kicker is; we still don’t know what all this change entails. 🌎
.
Getting grounded now could be the single most important thing we do for the coming new year.
.
Not being grounded can cause us to make wrong decisions based on emotions not values. This leads to regret and disappointment even devastating consequences in some cases.
.
So What does it mean to be grounded?
.
Staying calm, collected, peaceful with an embedded sense of what’s really important to us. When we are grounded we are steadfast, strong, decisive and purposeful.
.
Here are 6 ways to get grounded for the New Year:
.
Go Old School: Build an old school skill. From a Neuroscientist at the University of Richmond, “with so much of our work being done from a desk we are losing some of our hand-brain connection and in turn we lose a sense of control over our environment”. Working with our hands solidifies our own physical independent capabilities. It helps us feel empowered and less reliant on technology or outside forces. Knit, puzzle, build, woodwork, plant, build a motor, create!
.
Conserve your concern: Do not concern yourself over what others are or are not doing. In other words, mind yo business! We don’t have the time, ability or right to be in charge of anyone else’s actions. This includes passive aggressive behaviors. 🤢 Model the behavior you want to see in others and let it go. Offering unsolicited advice to strangers is downright dangerous. Be advised pedaling propaganda like slogans may not age well.
.
Trace Your Roots: To get where you are going it’s always a good idea to know where you’ve come from. Nothing more grounding than realizing the efforts of those who came before us to bring understanding to what is really important.
.
Take On A Warriors Attitude: Look for warrior role models with never say die attitudes. Read their books, follow their works and engage with their role in history. “We are the sum of the five people we spend the most time with”-Jim Rohn.
.
Take an inventory: Know your values and what battles are truly worth fighting for. Predetermining our lines in the sand helps us make decisions without regret. Understand consequences and prepare for those possible outcomes.
.
Connect To Reality: Stay away from virtual chaos as much as possible. Keeping our lives based in reality rather than virtually helps bring a better sense of control and weeds out unnecessary strife that only exists in the digital universe. Connect with purpose.
.
In a world with so much FAKE, the logical antidote is REAL. Taking things back to things I can see, hear, smell and touch provides a sense of empowerment. Keep it simple, deal in reality and truth. That to me is the very best way to stay grounded.
