Some people aren’t comfortable with your growth. If they perceive you growing beyond their own perception of themselves they may leave and that’s ok.

Making the decision to live a healthier lifestyle starts with a lot of excitement and motivation to execute. When we are excited about something we like to share it with those who are close to us.
.
We can find ourselves talking about the new information we learned, telling someone about the new hikes we’ve been going on. Maybe we are planning a new trip based around an activity that we enjoy. All stuff we may not have done before or as frequently as we are doing now.
.
Unfortunately not everybody will share our excitement in the changes we are making. Some of the people close to us will feel they need to push back on our excitement. They may even make discouraging comments.
.
When this happens try to remember that it’s not about us as a person. It’s about how our changes make them feel. When someone close to us makes changes it causes us to reflect on our own decisions even if we don’t want to.
.
This can create feelings of guilt, missing out, shame or even grief over losing something.
.
Fortunately with solid relationships this is temporary. There is an adjustment period but most of the time the people really close to us understand our new choices are vital for our health.
.
There will be some that cannot adjust. They simply do not like the way they feel when they are around us anymore and that’s okay. Maybe the relationship wasn’t serving to both people anyway?
.
Know that we can’t make anyone feel any way but that we choose how we want to feel. If those close to us are choosing to feel bad in our presence then they probably aren’t comfortable with growing yet and we are a reminder of that. Being comfortable with our own growth is the best model we can provide for those around us.
