Even though I fully support everyone’s right to make their own medical decisions, if I’m being honest I do struggle to understand why anyone would choose to take these experimental shots we are faced with today.
.
On the flip side, I’m certain people feel the same way about my point of view. They might be thinking, why would anyone choose NOT to take a shot that could protect them from a virus that may make them sick?
.
Two contributing factors of influence on our thinking are personal experience and exposure to information. We all have our own personal experiences and we all have been exposed to different information over time.
.
I hope to offer a little insight here on where medical mistrust may come from for some people.
.
Seven reasons people mistrust medical mainstream advice. From historical events to current experiences.
.
Project Paper Clip: A program where the US government gave refuge to German Scientists and Doctors that aided Hitler in committing horrendous experimental medical acts and murder. The same scientist who invented sarin gas for the gas chambers went on to have one of the highest security clearances at the pentagon and nothing was ever mentioned about his past publicly. Our government hid people who committed crimes against humanity for its own gain. (Operation PaperClip)
.
Tuskegee: An experiment conducted by US health officials that purposefully kept treatment from a group of African American males suffering from “bad blood”. Men were lured into a live trial that resulted in deaths and although treatment was available it was never given. (Black History in Two Minutes)
.
Residential Schools for First Nations: The Canadian government committed cultural genocide by removing children from their homes and restricting contact with their families. US Health agencies vaccinated Native American children without informed consent and performed sterilization procedures on women, many of which were unaware of the nature of the procedure. (Murder By Decree) (NIH.gov)
.
The Opioid Crisis: If your life hasn’t been personally impacted by this yet consider yourself extremely lucky. Many innocent peoples lives have been drastically changed by having been prescribed extremely addictive pain medication for pain with very little to no warning at all about how addictive these medications were. Purdue maker of OxyContin was recently found liable for the opioid crisis losing an 8 billion dollar suit. (NPR)
.
Big Pharma’s Relationship to Media and Public Health Agencies: Big Pharma spends 5.2 billion on TV advertising. A lot of that money is paid to the very people bringing you health advice right now, the mainstream news. Public Health agencies like the FDA also receive funding from drug companies by way of “user fees”. In essence drug companies pay to get their medicines to market. (Stat News) (CHD)
.
The Downplay or Rejection of other Viewpoints and Modalities:
Historically and currently there has been an outright concerted effort to block therapeutics, supplements and modalities that are not “approved” (aka patented) by mainstream allopathic medicine. When you have experienced positive results from something it’s difficult for someone to convince you they don’t work. Although integrative care is becoming more widely accepted there is still a push to steal and/or discredit ancient medicine and natural treatment. There is also a complete disregard for cultural practices and an assumption that western medicine is best for everyone and that they have the right to dictate that to all. (Flexner Report) (Pharma)
.
Inconsistencies in what they say and what they do with no follow up: A doctors visit in the US for a lot of people is 10 minutes with most of that time spent with the care provider looking down typing into a device. Providers change and there is often no follow up when they do. Medical error is the third leading cause of death in the US and prescription drug abuse is 5 times higher in physicians than in the generally population. (AAC.ORG)
.
There are many contributing factors as to why people may have mistrust for mainstream medical
advice. To dismiss or disregard anyone’s concerns is another arrogant attempt to push forward an allopathic model deemed better than any other model.
.
Exposure to information coupled with our own experience offers a lot of insight into a point of view. It helps us understand ourselves and gives us confidence in our own decisions. It may also bring the understanding we need to let go of frustrations we feel with other people’s decisions.
